AIRPORTS

The StreetMapper LiDAR technology is a cost-effective alternative to the traditional methods for collecting the data required to prepare airport obstruction surveys that meet government requirements for:

  • Runways, Taxiways (documentation of surface damages, identification of cracks)
  • Construction (basic survey for construction design, check after bed construction)
  • Airspace Obstacles (inventory, verification of manual measurements and identification of ground based collision risks)
  • Air Navigation (inventory NavAids for terrestrial VFR)

The VQ250 Riegl Class 1 invisible beam eye safe scanners are fast data collectors featuring high accuracy and high resolution. This allows for expedient non-disruptive 3D mapping of airports without hindering air traffic or airport operations.
Class 1 laser definition. A Class 1 laser is safe under all conditions of normal use. This means the maximum permissible exposure (MPE) is not exceeded when viewing a laser with the naked eye or with the aid of typical magnifying optics (e.g. telescope or microscope). To verify compliance, the standard specifies the aperture and distance corresponding to the naked eye, a typical telescope viewing a collimated beam, and a typical microscope viewing a divergent beam.

The world’s most accurate mobile mapping system StreetMapper, has achieved Root Mean Squared (RMS) error accuracies of less than 0.02’ on a test area specifically designed to evaluate mobile laser scanning systems. TMLS has been proven for airport documentation at a major international airport and through an independent evaluation against 44 control points spaced throughout the runway surface.

        RMS Error Report

   Minimum dz   -0.037'
   Maximum dz +0.025'
   Average magnitude 0.013'
   Root mean square 0.017'
   Standard deviation 0.017'
